A Time and Times and Half a Time
A collaborative installation between artists Arabella Lee and Pauline Thomas with the poet Samuel Brenton to bring the workings of the bells, at the church of St John on Bethnal Green and make them visible in the belfry space below.
This installation responded specifically to the history and the architecture of the church. It comprised of three video projections of the bells hanging high up in the bell tower. Only one of the three bells has been restored to peal. The projections reflected this by one bell ringing at a time in random order.
The sound track was the King James Version of the 'Book of Revelations' by St John the Divine. 2011 was the 400th anniversary of the publication of the King James Bible.
